Carving a flower from a tomato (a rose or a lotus), is a creative way to enhance the presentation of your dish. This edible decoration adds a touch of elegance to any salad or platter of vegetables, meat, or cheese. The bright red color of the tomato creates a striking contrast with other ingredients, making your meal visually appealing as well as delicious. Ideal for special occasions or when you want to impress your guests, a tomato flower adds a fresh and artistic flair to your culinary creations.
1. Wash and dry the tomatoes.
2. Take one tomato and cut off the top.
3. Use a teaspoon to scoop out the pulp from the inside of the tomato.
4. To create the petals, make 8 vertical cuts from the top to the bottom of the tomato, but be careful not to cut all the way through.
5. Carefully cut each petal into two layers by separating the tomato skin from the flesh, creating a double layer of petals. This will form a lotus flower shape.
6. Take the second tomato and peel the skin off in a continuous spiral.
7. Roll the spiral strip of tomato skin to create a rose shape.
8. Place the tomato rose in the center of the tomato lotus.
